Synopsis The Rising of the Shield Hero

4 ordinary men from modern Japan are summoned to the fantasy kingdom of Melromarc to become legendary heroes. Each is given a powerful weapon to fight the Waves of Catastrophe, periodic disasters that have threatened the kingdom for generations: the sword, the spear, the bow, and Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, receives the shield.

Unlike his companions, Naofumi is quickly marginalized and ridiculed for his lack of offensive capabilities and his simple defensive weapon. His situation worsens drastically when he is betrayed by his only ally, falsely accused of a serious crime, and rejected by the inhabitants and other heroes. Isolated and despised, Naofumi finds himself having to navigate this hostile world with only his rage and determination to prove his worth as allies.

In a desperate act to survive and prepare for the next Waves of Catastrophe, Naofumi acquires Raphtalia, a demihuman slave. Together, they embark on a difficult journey to strengthen their powers and gain the trust of the kingdom. Naofumi, transformed by hardship, becomes not only a fierce protector but also a symbol of redemption and justice in a world that seems determined to break him.
