The Frieren Season 2 anime, announced

The Madhouse studio has announced the production of the anime Frieren Season 2 (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2).

Synopsis – Frieren

The series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End tells the epic story of the elf mage Frieren, a former member of a group of adventurers who defeated the Demon King and restored harmony to the world after a decade-long quest. Once upon a time, this heroic group included Frieren, the human hero Himmel, the dwarven warrior Eisen, and the human priest Heiter. Before parting ways, they observe the Era meteor shower together, a celestial phenomenon that occurs once every fifty years. Frieren promises to meet them again for a better view at the next event. Then, she leaves to continue her quest for magical knowledge.

Fifty years later, Frieren returned to the capital. Humanity has evolved and its former companions have aged. After one last adventure to see the meteor shower, Himmel dies of old age. At his funeral, Frieren expressed regret for not having tried to get to know him better. She then visits her other former classmates. She agrees to take care of Fern, an orphaned child adopted by Heiter, and receives an invitation to travel north, to the resting place of souls, to see Himmel again and say goodbye. To accomplish these missions, Frieren embarks on a journey with Fern, while pursuing his passion for learning magic.

Frieren's elven nature gives her a very long lifespan, which leads her to perceive periods of several years or decades as fleeting (this perception of time makes her consider the ten-year adventure with Himmel's group as a fleeting experience).
The story takes place over a long period of time, punctuated by flashbacks and the physical and mental evolution of the characters, with the exception of Frieren.

The manga Frieren (Sousou no Frieren, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) by Yamada Kanehito (script) and Abe Tsukasa (art) began in 2020 at Shogakukan Editions and currently has 13 bound volumes in Japan.
