Synopsis Kaiju No. 8:

Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man, works as a cleaner of kaijuu, the monstrous Godzilla-like creatures that terrorize Japan. He is a member of the Professional Kaijuu Cleaner Corporation, which is responsible for cleaning up the remains of kaijuu once they are shot by the Defense Corps, an elite military unit. Kafka is dissatisfied with his job as a sweeper; since childhood, he has dreamed of joining the Defense Corps and fighting the kaijuu on the front lines. After several unsuccessful attempts, he gave up on his dream, resigning himself to a mediocre but stable life.

However, the arrival of an 18-year-old recruit, Leno Ichikawa, to his cleaning team, rekindles Kafka's desire to join the Defense Corps.

One day, Kafka is infected by a parasitic kaijuu that enters his body, turning him into a humanoid monster. Its new code name: Kaiju n°8

Armed with his newfound powers, Kafka joins the Defense Corps to fight the kaijuu.
