The SAND LAND anime, in video teaser

It's during Jump Festa 2023 that we learn about the anime adaptation of Akira Toriyama's SAND LAND manga (Dragon Ball saga)!

This OVA is scheduled for release on August 18, 2023 in select Japanese theaters and May 29, 2024 on Bluray (English subtitles included).

On March 20, 2024, the anime Sand Land (13 episodes) will be released on Disney+ in a director's cut version (ep. 1 to 7: history of the OVA and ep. 8~13: unpublished story). Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga & Anima studios are in charge of the project.

Synopsis:

The story of the manga Sand Land is set in a distant future where the Earth has become an arid and inhospitable desert, and water has become the most precious and coveted resource. In this post-apocalyptic world, the king of Sand Land, the demon Bakura, has allowed the exploitation of the "Water Forest" region, a lush forest that is the only remaining source of water on the planet.

We follow Beelzebub, a demon from Sand Land who has been tasked by King Bakura with capturing a water thief who is terrorizing the region. Beelzebub sets out on a quest to find the thief, accompanied by his faithful companion, the demon Rachel. During their journey, they meet many colorful characters, such as the demon prince E. Honda and the stone giant Golem.

The Sand Land game is scheduled for release on April 25, 2024 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox series X|S.

Information about the manga Sand Land

The Sand Land manga is written and drawn by Akira Toriyama, the author of the famous Dragon Ball series. It was published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between 2000 and 2001, and has a total of 2 bound volumes in Japan (1 volume for the new edition).

Sand Land is a story full of adventure and struggle, but also more contemplative moments that deal with themes such as friendship, loyalty, and responsibility. If you like action and sci-fi manga, Sand Land has countless qualities, including that of being an original work by master mangaka Akira Toriyama.
