Tohai manga adapted into anime

Publisher Akita Shoten has announced the anime adaptation of SHINASAKA Kouji's Tohai manga!

The Tohai: Ura Rate Mahjong Tohai Roku anime series is scheduled for release in 2024 in Japan. A teaser poster and a video teaser have been unveiled.

Tohai Anime Synopsis

In the shadows of the city's bustling streets hides a little-known secret: one of the most talented and ruthless Mahjong players is none other than a young high school student. Kei, a taciturn teenager, stands out for his observational skills, unwavering willpower, and gaming experience, all of which allow him to survive in a world full of powerful, wealthy, and dangerous characters.

Alongside his life as a gamer, Kei hides a dark secret. He protects Amina, a young girl who has entered the country illegally, by hiding her to warn her of imminent deportation. His days are punctuated by the boredom of the uninteresting classes he attends and the nights are devoted to high-stakes Mahjong games, where every move can be his last.

For Kei, Mahjong isn't just a game, it's a battlefield where respect, reputation and survival are at stake. His daily life is a precarious balance between the ordinary world of high school and the dark and breathless world of clandestine gambling halls.
