Synopsis of the movie Mononoke Karakasa:
In the dark and captivating world of feudal Japan, the "Medicine Merchant" wanders, an enigmatic figure and master of the occult. Armed with his sword of exorcism, he doesn't just hunt down evil spirits called Mononoke. Before he can confront them, he must unveil their Form, their Truth, and their Reason. Each confrontation begins with careful psychological analysis and risky investigation, necessary to understand these entities before they can be fought.
The story takes place in Ooku, a place dedicated to the women of the court and the nerve center of the shoguns' power. Two new handmaidens, Asa and Kame, enter this world ruled by rigid and unfathomable rules. Asa, ambitious and talented, seeks to advance through this complex hierarchy, while the more modest Kame simply seeks her place within this fascinating environment. As soon as they arrive, they are drawn into a rite of passage that seals their destiny and forges an unexpected bond between them.
Under the watchful eye of the old Utayama, guardian of the traditions of the Ooku, strange events and tensions begin to manifest, revealing hidden passions and rivalries. Ominous nocturnal noises, irrational behavior among the maids, and the oppressive presence of a supernatural entity, all converge in an inevitable tragedy.
The "Medicine Dealer", an exorcist of monsters, arrives in Ooku to confront the evil that lurks there, where a ritual of purification and salvation begins, blending horror and beauty in this haunting tale of shadows.
